Research/Special Interests

Dr. Morgan’s research interests are broadly in the areas of molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and bioinformatics.  Specifically, she has collaborative student research projects that are using environmental DNA (eDNA)  to detect antibiotic-resistant bacteria in waterways.  Her students and she are also using eDNA detection to determine if fungal pathogens of reptiles are present in the environment.  In the area of bioinformatics, Dr. Morgan’s students use various computer programs and databases to model proteins based on their DNA sequence and predict their pathogenicity in human diseases.  Dr. Morgan’s research students not only learn marketable biological skills and techniques; they also gain valuable communication skills as they present their work at regional scientific conferences.
